Where it all began
It was 1969 when Ezio Caraffini, the company’s founder and builder, began planning our Casa Vinicola, still the dreams and imaginations for the future were projected onto a bare green hillside and the reflection that came back was shapeless.
As the decades passed, the progress of the work outlined everything,
fuelling the passion that characterised La Fornace.
In 1997 the Caraffini family expanded
with the marriage between Lorenza, Ezio’s daughter, and Alessandro,
who was immediately bewitched by the flavour of those wines and the magic of those stories.
It took a few vintages for him to fall definitively in love with viticulture, so, endowed with an innate spirit of adaptation, he began his adventure by planting new vines in 2006 and continuing to produce that same authentic and decisive wine.
Today, after 50 years, it is the third generation of the family that runs the company,
looking ambitiously to the future but always cherishing the past.
With an awareness of the efforts of those before us who made that bare green hill
into a magnificent painting.
A decade history
It was the late 1960s: the moon came close enough to walk on, young people danced the twist, and my grandfather Ezio planted our first vineyard, laying the foundations of Casa Vinicola La Fornace.

The first vineyard
The far-sighted idea of Ezio Caraffini, who decided to plant vines along the borders of Umbria and Tuscany, was dictated by passion and dedication: a simple gesture that was able to conceive the future enterprise and grow sinuous rows of pure Sangiovese.
The winery takes shape
In 2006, the winery takes shape thanks to the careful management of Alessandro, who adds new rows of Colorino and Petit Verdot to the older vines. The roots are strengthened, they grow and the hillside is tinged with young and new nuances.

Renovation and production
The old wine cellar is renewed and the production of ‘La Fornace’ red wine evolves in full respect of nature and its sustainability, allowing the sale of thousands of bottles and providing its customers with a sincere companion in convivial moments.
The new generation
Today, it is the young mind of Corrado, son of Alessandro and Lorenza, who conceives the ambitious and important project of expanding production to more wines by establishing a company that is environmentally sustainable and embraces more good, sun-exposed land.
A purpose that inherits the character of those who gave life to our rich flavours in the past.

The cellar
When construction work began, this was the first room to be designed:
located in the innermost and most protected part of the structure, it is the beating heart of the entire house.
Upon entering, one perceives the directness of the person who first thought of it.
